A Lotta Water

In the past two days we have visited three spectacular waterfalls. The first of these is Gullfoss (Gold Falls). It is huge and multifaceted, and you can get close to it. I believe that it at least rivals Niagra Falls.

This series of photographs was taken while walking first up the opposite side of the river bank from the lower falls segment. Then I hiked up alongside the upper segment, which is at a right angle from the lower segment. Finally, I turned around and looked downriver.

Here the impact of the water produces a heavy mist, which, in turn, obscures part of the Falls and the river below.

The second is Skogafoss, a tall graceful waterfall with beautiful features.

This kittywake likes the falls too.

The third waterfall is Seljalandsfoss.

Seljalandsfoss is famous not only for its size and beauty, but because there is a trail that allows people, who don't mind getting wet, to walk behind the falls.

Here are some pictures of Irene taking a stroll behind the falls.
