Scotland: Not for eating--Scone Castle

May 11-18, 2013. A week in Scotland. We visit Pitlochry and surrounding area in the Highlands of Scotland

Edradour Distillery

Edradour Distillery is a Highland single malt whisky distillery based in Pitlochry Scotland. The tour was first-rate and the whisky wonderful.

Edradour also bottles whisky from other distilleries. Below is an Edradour keg from 1998 and a Willsher Dundee keg from 1969. This is one of the older kegs in the building.

Pitlochry, Scotland (In the Highlands)

In the heart of Scotland with real hospitality, clear sparkling air, beautiful scenery, rich clan history, fine food, plenty of space and lots to see and do. Pitlochry is primarily a holiday destination, which caters for the holiday maker year round in its own special way. The people are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful as it has been a tourist destination for well over 150 years, counting Queen Victoria amongst its earlier visitors.

Castle of Scone (Scone rhymes with "rune")

In the Middle Ages the land was the site of a major Augustinian abbey, Scone Abbey. This was the crowning-place of the Kings of the Scots (on the Stone of  Scone, also known as the Stone of Destiny)
The gardens of Scone feature Moot Hill, the mound was said to have been created by pilgrims each carrying a bootful of soil to the site in a gesture of fealty to the king. A replica of the Stone of Scone sits on Moot Hill, where coronations occurred. (Wikipedia)

A replica of the stone upon which the Kings of Scots were crowned until 1296
Presently on view in the state rooms of Scone Palace are fine collections of furniture, ceramics, ivories, and clocks. (No photos, but we had a wonderful tour with excellent docents). The gardens were lovely with live peacocks and statues of deer.

There was also an area for kids and the young at heart.

Guess who? The spider and the Knight!

This zip line "bucked" off it's rider. No one was hurt fortunately
