Making Silverplated Copper Bowls at Home

We stopped at an unusual home business along Route 6 on our way from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. They make bowls out of scrap copper, embed patterns into them using a hammer and a variety of pointed devices, and then silver plate them. We didn't see the full process, but I was able to photograph enough to be interesting.

The first part of the process is shaping scrap copper so the it can be converted into a crude bowl.

Here a craftsman is working on the crude bowl.

Another craftsman is reshaping a bowl.

This lady is hammering a pattern into a bowl.

These ladies are cleansing and polishing bowls after the silver has been applied.

Yes, we did buy one - the small bowl at the top.
