Banteay Srei (Citedal of Women or Citedal of Beauty)
Banteay Srei is s small tenth century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and located near Siem Reap. The temple's modern name is probably related to the intricacy of the bas relief carvingss found on the walls and the tiny dimensions of the buildings themselves.
The temple is built largely of a hard red sandstone that can be carved like wood. Laterite was used for the enclosure walls and some structural elements.
The temple is known for the beauty of its pediments and lintels. The pediments (the triangular space above an opening) have whole scenes of mythological subject matter carved into them
