Hermitage Paintings

May 24, 2013 in St. Petersburg Russia. We visit the Hermitage Museum and are awed and dazzled. I have split our experience into two posts. This post is paintings, only. The other blog, "Hermitage without Paintings" will follow.

Paintings

And then, there is the collection. The collection!  The collection is encyclopedic and surely an art lover’s dream experience.
Titian, the Venetian master, is represented in the collection by an unbelievable eight (8) masterpieces—the works in this gallery alone rival that of Italy’s Uffizi Gallery and the spectacular Vatican museum collections.
Rembrandt, the Dutch baroque genius, is recognized with wall after wall of large scale paintings.

The big names of late 19th Century painting include Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas, Matisse, Courbet, Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Picasso to name a few.
Some of these works of art have never been loaned to other museums. Excerpted from "Behind the scenes at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg"

Disclaimer

I apologize for all distortions, reflections and color misrepresentations. I am not an art photographer and worked with available light without flash. Many of the pieces of art are covered with glass and hung near windows. You will see reflections in most of these photos.
