Walking Along the Coast, Snaefellsnes National Park, Iceland

Much of the Snaefellsnes Penninnsula coastline consists of basaltic lava and what grows on or near it. These photographs were taken while walking in two places along the coast in Snaefellsnes National Park.

 Seaweed thrives in this area.

This lady is enjoying life on the coast.

Lichens thrive on the basalt.

Wildflowers are just beginning to bloom after a particularly harsh winter and spring.

This is a dandelion about to bloom.

A small harbor made for photos.

Kittywakes enjoy life on the coast.

So does this cormorant. . .

and these laughing gulls.

These basalt pillars look like a stack of logs.

A few more flowers.

An unusual statue

Sheep also like life on the coast.
